🌍 Health Systems Field Visit to Zipline Chemelil – Guided by Prof. Richard Muga
About the Trip
On 4th July 2025, students from the Health Systems class at Uzima University took part in an enriching field visit to Zipline Chemelil, a pioneering medical drone delivery hub. The visit was expertly led by Prof. Richard Muga, a distinguished public health specialist and faculty member, who provided valuable insights into the intersection of healthcare systems and emerging technologies.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to observe how Zipline’s drone technology is transforming healthcare logistics in Kenya — enabling rapid delivery of blood, vaccines, and essential medical supplies to remote and underserved communities. The experience illustrated the potential of technology-driven innovations in strengthening health systems and improving health outcomes.
This hands-on learning experience deepened students’ understanding of real-world health system challenges and solutions, reinforcing classroom knowledge with practical exposure. It also emphasized the importance of policy, infrastructure, and innovation in enhancing healthcare access and equity across the country.
