It is my pleasure to welcome you to Uzima University and School of Nursing (UU-SoN). It is a humbling privilege to serve as the Dean School of Nursing and I am delighted to work with a great team. The School of Nursing was established in October 2011 and opened its doors to the first group of students in August 2012 after accreditation by the Commission of University Education and Nursing Council of Kenya.

The programme is integrated programme to prepare a graduate with capacity to provide holistic nursing care in health care system, provision of leadership in nursing practice, nursing education and nursing research. The graduates in the various nursing programmers will be able to utilize skills based on knowledge derived from theory, practice, and evidence based on research and in relation to emerging health needs of a changing society. They will be capable of functioning effectively in a variety of teaching institutions and health care settings, to offer primitive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services to the clients/ patients. The graduates will be able to function independently and interdependently within the multidisciplinary health care team. The upgrading programme is designed to give experienced registered nurses an opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge, skills and attitude:

Leadership Management and Education:

  1. Conduct Training needs assessment to enhance development of appropriate Bachelors and Masters degree in Nursing
  2. Formalization of MOU between University of Texas Medical Branch –School of Nursing and Uzima University
  3. Develop Partnership with communities to enhance learning and facilitate community development
