Rotaract Club of Uzima University is part of the mother Rotary Club that has its establishments in various nations of the world. The Deputy Dean of Students has been the Patron of the Club since its inception in 2017 by the pioneer Medicine students, form the Clinical Medicine and the Nursing departments. The first President to the club being Dr Bernadette Achieng` from the School of Medicine Class followed by Charity Rose from the School of Nursing.

Since then the Club has progressed well and has been growing not only in Uzima but also on the global Map. Some of the activities that have placed Uzima University on the map include;
- Blood drives for the County Referral Hospital (JOORTH)
- Tree planting activities
- Community work one of them being the latrine that was built at Ramula Primary School way back in 2017 and Community Sanitation activities
- Rotaractors have been able to travel to travel outside the County and outside the Country – Kakamega Shikusa Prison for tree planting activity and tree planting activity in Uganda.
Dean School of Nursing
Welcome you to Uzima University and School of Nursing (UU-SoN). It is a humbling privilege to serve as the Dean School of Nursing and I am delighted to work with a great team.
The School of Nursing was established in October 2011 and opened its doors to the first group of students in August 2012 after accreditation by the Commission of University Education and Nursing Council of Kenya. The programme is integrated programme to prepare a graduate with capacity to provide holistic nursing care in health care system, provision of leadership in nursing practice, nursing education and nursing research.
The graduates in the various nursing programmes will be able to utilize skills based on knowledge derived from theory, practice, and evidence based on research and in relation to emerging health needs of a changing society. They will be capable of functioning effectively in a variety of teaching institutions and health care settings, to offer promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services to the clients/ patients. The graduates will be able to function independently and interdependently within the multidisciplinary health care team. The upgrading programme is designed to give experienced registered nurses an opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to provide holistic nursing care.
Our Vision
Our vision is to become a center of excellence in nursing education, research and health care for continuous improvement of the health of the people of the Great Lakes Region of East and Central Africa and globally. The School provides holistic ethical education to nursing students to acquire intellectual knowledge and skills with the right attitudes and competencies relevant to meet the health care needs of the Kenyan population and future. The graduates will be mentored to effectively contribute in achievement of improved quality of health services to the highest standards as envisioned in Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and will further contribute to the promotion of sustainable health benefits and development of the nursing profession
The school has four departments headed by one chairperson:
- Department of Medical – Surgical Nursing,
- Department of Midwifery, Department of Community Health and Research
- Department of Leadership Management and Education
Rationale of the Programme
Providing training of nurses at bachelor’s degree level is one way of raising the standards of health care delivery to Kenyans, since nurses are the backbone of health service delivery.
It is envisaged that the graduates will apply critical thinking in the process and come up with practical solutions to solve the various patients /client’s health problems and needs. The improvement in the services will be achieved through integration of the knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired.
The programmes have been designed to recognize that its graduands will have a strong clinical, biomedical and community health knowledge base in order to provide quality health care that will integrate curative, preventive, promotive and rehabilitative health care.
The professional practice of Nursing is regulated by an Act of parliament (Cap.257 of the laws of Kenya). This ensures that high standards are maintained during training and practice while observing professional ethics of conduct

Our programmes have been approved by professional bodies governing the teaching & practice of Medicine, Nursing & Clinical Medicine.
These include East African Regional Medical Board, Medical Practitioners & Dentist Board – Kenya, Nursing Council of Kenya and Clinical Officers Council
