CAAMP INSTITUTES
Centre for Analysis of African Medicinal Plants (CAAMP) at Uzima University The center is composed of three institutes,
1.Tropical Indigenous Ethnobotany and Agricultural Institute (TIEBAI) focusing on studying, identifying and conserving tropical Indigenous African medicinal plants (link)
2.Tropical Indigenous Ethnomedicine and Pharmaceutics Institute (TIEMPI) focusing on elucidating and studying the extracts in physiological systems including performing clinical trials (link)
3.Tropical Indigenous medicinal plants Packaging and Marketing Institute (TIPMU) focusing on designing, evaluating, enclosing and protecting products for distribution, storage, sale, and use (link).
1. TROPICAL INDIGENOUS ETHNOBOTANY AND AGRICULTURAL INSTITUTE (TIEBAI)
The institute is mandated to carry out the following activities carries the following activities
1.Ethnobotanical surveys including Botanical identification, digitization and databanking all the East African Medicinal plants.
2.Establishment of botanical garden of selected East African plants to maintain plant collections and for community education.
3.Monitoring the best performing cultivars and multiplying them further to expand the botanical garden and support local communities for sustainable production.
4.Breeding of best performing medicinal plants
5.Conservation of selected East African plants through tree domestication, ex-situ conservation and capacity building of the local communities
2.TROPICAL INDIGENOUS ETHNOMEDICINE AND PHARMACEUTICS INSTITUTE (TIEMPI)
The institute is mandated to carry out the following activities
1.Extraction of crude active ingredients from selected East African plants
2.Purification of active ingredients from crude extracts of selected plants
3.Identification and modification of active compounds from purified active ingredients
4.Chemical characterization and Evaluation of Bioactive ingredients in animal models
5.Clinical trials of purified extracts

4. TROPICAL INDIGENOUS MEDICINAL PLANTS PACKAGING AND MARKETING INSTITUTE (TIEMPI)
The institute is mandated to carry out the following activities carries the following activities.
1.Packaging crude and purified extracts for use as medicinal food supplements and therapeutics.
2.Storage of packaged products
3.Marketing packaged products
4.Monitoring and evaluation of use of processed medicinal plants ingredients
5.Sensitizing communities about the medicinal plants products
